Emergency kit on Black Friday: what is worth buying
Black Friday 2026 is on 27 November, and Cyber Monday on the 30th.
It is a good day for the parts of the kit that last for years, like the radio, the torch or the alarms, and not for what expires. This is what the authorities recommend, with the sources at the end.
All of this, put into a plan for your home, is in the guide Ready in 7 Days.
What to buy that day
Power bank
To charge phones, or a medical device that charges by USB, when the power is off. The government's Be Ready checklist asks for one, charged.
Check price: INIU, 10,000 mAhWind-up or battery radio
When the internet and mobile network go down, local radio is how you hear what the authorities ask. A battery FM radio does the job; a wind-up one doesn't need spare batteries.
Check price: SOLARBABY, hand crank, solar panel and 2,000 mAh batteryHead torch
Torches are safer than candles, and a head torch leaves both hands free.
Check price: Lepro, pack of 2Smoke alarm
One on every floor of your home, tested once a month with its button.
See optionsCarbon monoxide alarm
You can't see or smell carbon monoxide. If there is a boiler, a gas fire or a wood burner at home, fit an alarm.
Check price on Amazon
The rest, in three levels with what each one costs, in the kit.
If you buy several things for the kit on Amazon that day and don't have Prime, the 30-day free trial gives you free fast delivery. After that it is paid unless you cancel. Prime free trial

How to tell if the discount is real
- A discount is only real if the higher price was real. A "was" price the shop never really charged misleads, and the CMA treats it as an unfair practice.
- Countdown clocks that start again and "10 sold in the last 5 minutes" pop-ups are pressure, not information: false time limits are banned.
- Note the model number and look at its price for a few weeks before, so you can compare on the day, and add up delivery.
- Online, you have 14 days from delivery to cancel without giving a reason, and sale items have the same refund rights as full-price ones.
What there is no need to buy that day
- Water and food are better bought at the supermarket, without waiting for a deal: they expire, and the kit is checked to replace whatever is about to.
