Emergency kit on Black Friday: what is worth buying
Black Friday 2026 is on November 27, and Cyber Monday on the 30th.
It is a good day for the parts of the kit that last for years, like the radio, the flashlight or the alarms, and not for what expires. This is what the authorities recommend, with the sources at the end.
All of this, put into a plan for your home, is in the guide Ready in 7 Days.
What to buy that day
Power bank
Ready.gov puts a cell phone with chargers and a backup battery in the basic kit. Keep it charged.
Check price: Anker, 10,000 mAhHand-crank or battery radio
When the internet and cell network go down, the radio is how you hear what the authorities ask. This one also has the NOAA weather band and charges your phone.
Check price: FosPower D8, hand crank, solar, NOAA weather band and 37,000 mWh batteryHeadlamp
One flashlight for every person in the house, and a headlamp leaves both hands free. Better than candles.

How to tell if the discount is real
- A discount is only real if the higher price was real: the FTC says a former price has to be one the item actually sold at, openly and for a reasonable time, not one raised so it can be cut.
- Note the model number, follow its price for a few weeks before, and on the day compare the total cost with shipping and taxes.
- Check the return policy before you buy: sellers often have different rules for sale and clearance items.
- Pay by credit card when you can: if something goes wrong, you can dispute the charge.
What there is no need to buy that day
- Water and food are better bought at the grocery store, without waiting for a deal: they expire, and the kit is checked to replace whatever is about to.

Before you buy, what you already have
In Ready in 7 Days you do the seven days with what is already at home, and at the end you have the list of what is missing, with three spending levels. So you get to Black Friday knowing what to buy.
